Alice Dote (b. 1992, Fortaleza, Brazil) is a visual artist and researcher. Lives and works in Fortaleza.
Working across oil painting, drawing, and printmaking, she develops a figurative practice rooted in autobiographical experience. Her research engages with themes of eroticism and sexuality, memory and mourning, converging in an interest in images of intimacy. Her work operates through the tensions of a sexual politics of looking, the proposition of eroticism as a method, and the transductions between the intimate and the public.
Alongside her studio practice, Dote's research extends to questions of urban experience, collective memory, and visual culture. Since 2017, she has developed projects at the intersection of art and the city through the collective Narrativas Possíveis. She holds an M.A. in Sociology from the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), where her research focused on urban writing, walking practices, and image-making in downtown Fortaleza.

In 2025, Dote presented her first institutional solo exhibition, the name os this is not hunger, curated by Eduardo Bruno and Waldirio Castro at Banco do Nordeste Cultural Fortaleza. Over the course of three months, the exhibition welcomed nearly 2,000 visitors and was accompanied by an extensive public program, including guided tours, performances, collective readings, live drawing sessions, and painting workshops.
In 2026, she published her first monograph, Alice Dote (Barléu Editora), featuring approximately sixty paintings, drawings, and prints produced over recent years, alongside a critical essay by researcher Paula Plee. The publication marks an important moment in her trajectory and situates her work within the field of contemporary figurative art.

In 2025, she was selected for the fifth edition of PRIS (Residency and Exchange Program) at Hub Cultural Porto Dragão. In 2024, during a residency period in Barcelona, she pursued studies in painting, lithography, and photogravure at institutions including the Barcelona Academy of Art, La Maldita Estampa, and Taller de Grabado Manera Negra.
Dote's practice extends beyond the studio through teaching, publishing, and collaborative projects. She has developed and taught courses and workshops focused on urban experience, artistic practice, and visual culture, including programs at Vila das Artes Public School of Visual Arts and independent educational initiatives.
Her illustration work includes book covers and editorial projects for writers, researchers, and independent publishers. She has also developed collaborations with cultural and design initiatives, including the projects A Passo and Pele Viva.
As a muralist, she has participated in multiple editions of Festival Concreto, as well as public art and community-based projects throughout Fortaleza.
Writing remains a central element of her practice. In addition to academic research, she has published essays, critical texts, chronicles, and poetry in books, exhibition catalogues, collective publications, and literary anthologies. Her texts explore themes related to image-making, urban experience, intimacy, memory, and everyday life.
